Katie Molinengo was born in DuBois, Pennsylvania in the winter of 1990 and grew up in the nearby town of Brookville. Creating has always been a favorite past time throughout her life taking on many forms. Spending time connecting to nature has also always been of the utmost importance to her. Fusing nature and art together through paintings, subject matter and community programs is what she is most passionate about. The landscape has always been a captivating place where she feels home. She shows her gratitude for the earth by honoring it in her work. Katie currently lives and works in Wheeling, WV.
In 2014, she earned a BFA with a major concentration in Painting and minors in Printmaking and Art History from Edinboro University. Here she learned many formal techniques and made work that focused on storytelling, space, color and light. Following graduation, she moved to Chicago to attend graduate school at the Art Institute of Chicago in the Painting and Drawing Program. Katie discovered how much she enjoys public art and became more involved in community programming ever since. She earned her MFA in Painting and Drawing from SAIC in 2016.
Katie's artwork currently is focused on nature, cycles of time, the Feminine, mythology, and relationships. She works with oil, acrylic, and watercolor paint. She is a lover of light and color, experimenter with materials and adventurer of the land. Katie plans to further develop her conceptual and formal work, make more earth art, find community, meet and collaborate with local artists and spaces, connect people to nature and get her work and knowledge out into the world in whatever form it takes so others can experience joy and learning from life.
